AWD Technology Series | Life360
*This tutorial is for the Apple iPhone at this time, however the app will work relatively similarly across platforms.
Life360 is just what the sandwich generation has been looking for. With hectic schedules and long to do lists, managing the day to day for your family can feel like a full time job. Life360 is here to help! Whether you're making dinner plans, coordinating carpools, or just ensuring everyone arrived home safe, Life360 gives you simplified communication and peace of mind right at your fingertips.
The free version of this app allows you to see where everyone is in your circle and keep track of the day to day. If you want to upgrade to the premium version it comes with Crash Detection & Emergency Response, Driving Analysis & Weekly Report, and 24/7 Driver Care Support.
Step 1. Open the app store on your smart phone, then click on the search tab and begin typing "Life 360" into the search bar. When you find the app, press "GET. Once the app is downloaded (you may need to enter your iTunes password) press "open" and then "Get Started."
Step 2. Follow the three prompts you see below and create an account with Life 360.
Step 3. Because this app requires GPS to track you and your family members as well notify you when the alerts you choose are set up, you may want to choose the option "Always Allow" to the apps request to access your location and motion activity. The second photo below asks you to enter an invite code to join an existing circle. If you are the founder of the group then you will choose the option below to create a new circle, at which point you will be able to share a code with others in your family circle by clicking "Invite New Members" as shown in the third image.
Step 4. Your code to invite people into your circle will be active for 7 days. You can still invite more people to join your circle afterward, you will just need to go into setting and generate a new code. The second image below shows the app requesting permission to notify you when people in your circle send you a message or send out a help alert. You can choose to just check the app periodically but if you choose "Notify Me" then your phone will send you an alert when people need to reach you through the app. The final image below shows your ability to customize your map. You can enter the addresses to places like "Home", "Work", "School" or other important places that you frequent and that your network would need to know.
Step 5. The first two images below are showing you what the map circle will look like with your radius. You can set the "zone" of the important places you set, by increasing on decreasing the radius on the bottom of the slide. The third image shows your control panel. This is where you can see your messages, help alerts, and see the battery life of the other phones in your circle.
That's it! Now you can rest easy with the peace of mind that your family members will always be connected and easy to reach. No more wondering how much longer it will be until your daughter gets home or if grandma made it to her doctors appointment on time!
